Balancing an increasing demand for affordable electricity with environmentally-responsible power is a goal we all share. Electric utilities invested in renewable energy resources while the market offered economical options. In recent years, however, those costs have increased right along with other fuel sources, and ultimately, those increases are reflected in the monthly bills paid by consumers.
The Indiana Partnership for Fair and Affordable Energy is committed to working with Congress to find a solution that addresses the carbon concern without overly burdening ratepayers. One of the current bills being considered would affect consumers in coal-intensive states far more than those in states without coal as a natural resource. So the additional price to pay for carbon would be even higher for Hoosiers than for those who live on either coast. We must find a way to meet in the middle, so that individuals and businesses can afford the power they need to lead their daily lives, but in a way that reduces the negative effects on our global environment.
Together, we must encourage our congressional delegates to support legislation that keeps electricity costs fair and affordable. Can YOU afford an additional $50 a month on your electric bill? If not, join us and TAKE ACTION.
